LPS stands for Large Polyp Stony Corals. LPS corals are always of the hard coral category, and belong to the order of Scleractinias. They are characterized by a calcareous skeleton and swollen or everted polyps, which extend for several centimeters. Among the most common genera: Acanthastrea, Lobophyllia, Cynarina, Plerogyra, Favia, Scolymia, Catalaphyllia, Blastomussa, Fungia, Pectinia, Goniopora, Trachyphyllia.
